Welcome to:
Around the World - A Montessori Continent Study
One of my favorite pieces of planning for my Lower Elementary classroom is deciding how to teach the continents every year. This year I simplified my approach. Instead of teaching about the broad continent, something that all students having been in the Primary classroom have already been exposed to, I briefly introduced a continent a month. Then a picked a country or area within that continent to focus our study. Next year I plan to do the same thing, however, with a new focus into each continent. This way the students are shown aspects of the cultures that they might have otherwise missed.
I created this website to share my continent planning with other Montessori Elementary teachers. I have always enjoyed searching blogs and other websites for help in my planning. I hope that by sharing what I have done in my classroom, another teacher can find an idea or two they would like to try in their own classrooms.
I will start by sharing what I have done for this year and this site will be updated every month when I have a new continent study going on in the classroom. I will post pictures of the lessons as I can. For more of what goes on in the other areas of my classroom please visit my blog, The Montessori Chatter.
Have a wonderful day!
